OBJECT-TIPS!

Thank you so much for joining us to object to the madness of destroying our small urban woodland just minutes walk from High Barnet High Street,  yet teaming with wildlife day and night.

Tips on writing your objections

It doesn’t have to be complicated. An objection no matter how short is an objection. However it needs to relate to valid issues that the council planning department will pay attention to. In the case of this particular development the following are major points:

  1. Destruction of wildlife and Woodland habitats, Climate Emergency, Saving existing woodland and Green spaces.

  2. The impact of the loss of this wildlife haven on you and your family personally and your physical and mental wellbeing

  3. The impact on Monken Hadley Conservation area and how the experience of the woodland and the heritage views will be permanently altered from Christchurch Lane and Sunset View in particular.

  4. The amenity of the woodland to the public will be affected: Currently there is little traffic on Christchurch Lane to the North of the white gate forming a closed off road. You may be able to let your dog off the lead and your toddler run free. Once the new residents are in place - with six bedrooms to use, space for 4 cars, and the  multiple deliveries of modern life, this will no longer be safe.

  5. You may feel that The Barnet Recreational Charitable Trust is not fulfilling their charitable promise to 'To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the (Beneficial Area) by the advancement of education and the provision of facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreation and leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.

  6. If you are aware of a planning policy that backs up your statements, please quote them.

  7. If you know of something that the pre-planning has omitted. No harm in mentioning it. It might be a valid objection. As long as it's fact, not fiction, and does not relate to individuals or local conflicts.

More in depth tips

You will want to take your time to read the planning application documents on Barnet Planning website. This can seem daunting.

You might read Barnet Council’s pre planning application comments to the developer included in the planning application submission on Barnet Council Planning. It is really well worth the effort. Even if you read nothing else.

You may find it helpful to look at DESIGN AND ACCESS STATEMENT. Page 47 onwards. The Council outlines their reasons for recommending refusal for the planning application. (This does not guarantee refusal. The delegated planning officer or planning committee members ultimately decide.)

Armed with this overview, you can spend as much or little time exploring the plans, drawings and documents. Remember the developer is trying to persuade the planning department, Barnet councillors and you, the public that the development is a good idea. Do you believe what is written? Does the developer answer all your questions? If not, please comment on this in your objections.

Do you believe that the woodland site is safe in the developer hands? If not, why not?

Are there any promises that have been made by government and Barnet council that you feel are not being met? What are they? What impact does this have on you and your family today and in the future?

Take your time. Write down your thoughts in a document. When you are ready you can copy and paste into your 'official' comments as described on the 'Object' page, link below. There you will find relevant web and email addresses.

Deadline February 5th.
